About the WSSD2 Solutions Session: Advancing Social Development in the Global South
In line with the commitments of the Copenhagen Declaration on Social Development and the objectives of the WSSD2, this solution session will bring together governments, UN agencies and Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) at different levels from the Global South.
The discussions will focus on initiatives leading to the goal of promoting and attaining universal and equitable access to the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health as outlined under Commitment 6 of the Copenhagen Declaration on Social Development.
Key Discussion Focus
The panel discussion will emphasise the importance of universal access to health including sexual and reproductive health information and services with a focus on universal health coverage, as key tents to social progress and development.
Speakers and attendees will:
- Share best practices, policies and partnerships
- Craft concrete recommendations for solutions towards progress for achieving the 2030 Agenda with a specific focus on Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3 (Good Health and Well-being and SDG 5 (Gender Equality).
- Explore the interlinkages between health, gender, sexual and reproductive health (SRH), and other intersecting issues, including climate change and disabilities, in ensuring Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
Our Approach at the WSSD2 Solutions Session
The discussion will highlight the importance of a multistakeholder, gender-balanced, life-course based intersectional and intergenerational approach for transformative actions to advance progress on the implementation of the 2030 Agenda. The panel will be interactive, inclusive and intergenerational.
