Beth Fredrick is an advocate and authority on population, human rights, gender equity, and sexual and reproductive rights and health (SRRH). She has co-created and supported local and global initiatives and partnerships with researchers, advocates, policymakers, and donors throughout Africa, Asia, Europe, and North and South America. For 15 years she co-led the Advance Family Planning (AFP) initiative of the William H. Gates Senior Institute on Population and Reproductive Health, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health (BSPH).

She is a Senior Advocacy Advisor with the Gates Institute and co-founded the BSPH Center for Public Health Advocacy. She is a faculty member of the BSPH Population, Family and Reproductive Health Department, developing and teaching an online course that enables students to apply the SMART Advocacy approach pioneered by AFP. Previous positions include Executive Vice President of the International Women’s Health Coalition and Chief Operating Officer and Senior Vice President for Programs of the Guttmacher Institute.  She has chaired the boards of Ibis Reproductive Health, Scenarios USA, and the AIDS and Adolescents Network of New York, and helped to launch the Baltimore Abortion Fund. In addition to the ARROW board, she serves on the boards of the EMpower Foundation and the Guttmacher Institute and chairs the executive committee of the Reproductive Health supplies Coalition. She was a Bell Fellow with Harvard University, adjunct faculty with New York University’s Wagner School for Public Service, and a graduate of the University of Wisconsin.
