Call for Applications: Gender Action and Climate Champions Academy

Graphic featuring the Arrow logo, the title "Gender Action and Climate Champions Academy," a tagline, and a call for applications with a deadline of February 17, 2025. The graphic includes overlapping silhouettes of women in pink, orange, and yellow tones against a dark purple background.

The Gender Action and Climate Champions Academy is a knowledge and skills- sharing platform to facilitate solidarity and build movements on the intersections of gender and climate action.

The initiative will ensure that gender and climate champions, in all their diversity and context, advance regional and global advocacies to push forward climate justice and gender empowerment. It will also ensure that such policies and implementation mechanisms firmly embed a gender and intersectional lens.

Introduction to the Gender Action and Climate Champions Academy⬇️

Between 2000 and 2019, the vulnerability of countries in the Asia-Pacific region increased considerably; eight out of the top ten countries by disaster occurrence and seven out of ten countries by disaster-affected population are in the Asia-Pacific region (UNESCAP).

Gender inequalities disproportionately impact people living in vulnerable situations and hinder sustainable development. Effective governance for climate action requires institutional coordination, a rights-based approach, and the inclusion of diverse groups such as youth, women, Indigenous peoples, and local communities in decision-making.

Women, in all their diversity, have largely been missing as key actors in climate negotiations, and gender actions in decision-making have been sidelined in some policy spaces.

Thus, we are introducing our Gender Action and Climate Champions Academy.

The academy aims to gather women in all their diversities from Asia and the Pacific, championing the intersections of gender and climate in their localities, to enhance capacities for fostering an environment where gender-responsive climate action takes place meaningfully in the region. The academy has two components: a webinar series and on-site engagement.

The virtual academy, led by ARROW, will collaborate with like-minded organisations and experts in the field. The webinar series will cover: Gender and Climate Change, Tools for Gender Mainstreaming, Climate Finance for Gender-Responsive Climate Action.

Towards the end of the webinar series, selected champions will have the opportunity to participate in on-site engagement, providing a regional platform for collaboration, capacity building, and networking. These include the Empower Workshop, and the Multi-Stakeholder Dialogue.

Eligibility criteria for the Gender Action and Climate Champions Academy📢

We are looking for women leaders in all their diversity in Asia and the Pacific who:

  • Are already engaged in the intersections of gender, sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), and climate justice issues who would like to elevate their skills.

  • Can articulate their intention for joining the Gender Action and Climate Champions Academy.
