My name is Danica Castillo, and I speak on behalf of the Asian-Pacific Resource and Research Centre for Women (ARROW).
The climate crisis is no longer a distant threat; we are now on track to cross the critical 1.5°C threshold due to intense global warming.
Fossil fuels are the single largest driver of this crisis, accounting for over 75% of global greenhouse gas emissions.
Rising seas, extreme weather, and ecosystem collapse are not just environmental issues; they are human rights issues that impacts women across intersectionalities.
With this, we welcome the recommendation of the United Nations Special Rapporteur to urgently examine the path toward a just transition within human rights framework, including women’s sexual and reproductive health and rights.
We believe that any just transition must be rooted in gender equity and human rights.
This is not only a climate imperative but also a human rights obligation.
A just transition must be transformative. It must ensure the protection of all sectors including women’s sexual and reproductive health and rights. Thank you.
