Evidence and Policy Directions from Sablayan and Pola, Mindoro, Philippines
Climate change reshapes coastal livelihoods and community life, making true resilience dependent on gender equity, community health, and environmental sustainability. In our research across two communities in Mindoro Province, PATH Foundation Philippines, Inc. (PFPI), with support from ARROW, examined how livelihood pressures reshape household and community roles. While gender norms remain persistent, changing economic realities are creating new spaces for women to take on leadership roles.
Moving beyond token participation, our findings demonstrate how climate vulnerabilities intersect with women’s SRHR. By embedding SRHR and fostering collective agency, local leadership, and institutional support through Women-Managed Areas (WMAs), we create an enabling social architecture for sustainable climate action and long-term disaster resilience, bridging grassroots realities with national policy.
