TK Sundari Ravindran is Senior Editor of the international journal Sexual and Reproductive Health Matters and a member of the Results Advisory Group of the World Bank’s Global Financing Facility in Washington, D.C. She is a retired Professor of Public Health at the Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology, Trivandrum.
Sundari’s research interests include the social determinants of health; gender and intersectional inequities in health; and sexual and reproductive health and rights. For more than four decades, she has worked as a researcher, trainer, editor and activist at local, national and international levels. She has published extensively in national and international journals and has edited or co-edited several scholarly volumes on gender and health, including the Springer *Handbook on Sex, Gender and Health: Perspectives from South Asia* (2025).
Sundari is a co-founder of the Rural Women’s Social Education Centre (RUWSEC), a grassroots women’s health organisation in Tamil Nadu founded in 1981, with which she remains actively associated. She is also a co-founder of CommonHealth, a national coalition for reproductive health and safe abortion. She serves on the Governing Board of the Institute of Public Health, Bengaluru; the Scientific Advisory Committee of the MS Swaminathan Research Foundation, Chennai; and the Advisory Expert Committee of the HLL Management Academy, Trivandrum.
Sundari has served on several international expert groups, including the Women’s Health and Gender Equity Knowledge Network of the WHO Commission on Social Determinants of Health; the United Nations Millennium Development Project Task Force on Maternal and Child Health; the Global Forum for Health Research; and the External Advisory Panel of UNFPA in New York. She has worked with the World Health Organization at its headquarters in Geneva as a staff member and in its regional offices in various capacities. Sundari was a Principal Visiting Fellow at the UN International Institute for Global Health (UN-IIGH) and has been associated with the Asia-Pacific Resource and Research Centre for Women (ARROW) since its inception, serving on its Programme Advisory Committee at various points and partnering on multiple ARROW projects.
