SDG Action Weekend Side Event: Towards the realisation of SDGs

The side event will showcase the strength of multistakeholder, intersectional and intergenerational initiatives especially pertaining to gender equality and SRHR. The event will bring together CSOs, UN agencies and the governments at different levels to discuss initiatives leading to the goal of gender equality and universal access to SRHR including in the time of emergency such as but not limited to, the COVID-19 pandemic.

Universal health coverage (UHC) and sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) are essential to advance the progress around the SDGs, especially SDG3 on health and SDG 5 on gender equality. The panel will be interactive, inclusive and intergenerational. The presentations aim to connect ground realities to the regional and global processes especially in advancing the SDGs, and also highlight the gaps in existing implementation.

Furthermore, the side event will focus on the regional realities of SDG implementation in the Asia Pacific region and highlight the importance of mobilising a multistakeholder approach and fostering partnerships for equitable and sustainable implementation of interventions for resilient response and recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, which is imperative for accelerated actions in the second half of the SDGs.

The discussion will focus on the interlinkages between gender, SRHR and other intersecting issues including climate change and disabilities, in ensuring UHC and the importance of a multistakeholder, gender balanced, and intergenerational approach for progress. In discussing the way forward, the speakers will make commitments and announce transformative actions to advance progress on the implementation of the 2030 Agenda. The session will comprise speakers from the government, UN, stakeholder groups and country level CSOs.
